Injuries Associated with In-line Skating

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effective prevention means on various extremity injury by investigating injury severity according to injury body site, type and safety device wearing.94 patients associated with in-line skating injuries from March 2002 to February 2004 were evaluated retrospectively. Male was 60 and female 34, mean age was 11.6 years old(range 6~41years old). 30 cases(59.6%)of injuries was between 6~14 years old age, the incidence was decreased over that age and the half of injury, 44 cases(46.9%) was happened during 4PM~8PM. According to nature of injuries, wrist fracture was 32 cases(34%), wrist sprain was 15 cases(16%) and elbow fracture was 13 cases(13.8%). About skating location, it mainly happened sidewalk and street around apartment. According to the main cause of injury, failure to control balance during skating was 38 cases(40.4%). 44 cases(46.8%) didn`t use any of helmet and protective device, 25 cases(26.6%) used all protective device including helmet. In conclusion, Appropriate safety equipment wearing in inline skating at the safe place after learning about the skating skills can reduce the inline skating extremity injuries.
